Why We Have States:
An Easier Way to Govern a Nation:
By dividing the country into many smaller areas, most people would think that the government would have many more challenges. But although the government isn't perfect, it is much easier to divide such a big area into fifty smaller ones. This way, the Federal Government can focus on the biggest responsibilities, and the State and Local Governments can take care of the smaller things.

State Takes Care of the Little Things:By having a separate State Government for each state, government officials are closer to the people in that particular state. That allows them to pay more attention to problems within their state, and focus solely on fixing them. Can you imagine if the president had to get involved with every little dispute in every state? What a nightmare! With State and Local Governments taking control of smaller issues, the Federal Government can take control of national issues.

People are Closer to the Government:With the State and Local Government officials nearby, it is easier for the citizens to get involved with the government. This means easier voting, communication with officials, and much more. It if also easier for the citizens to input their ideas to their State officials than to try and get their ideas through to the president, who is so far away. This is also helpful since many people may feel discouraged to get involved since it seems like such a huge effort. Even though being properly involved with the government is difficult, it is literally fifty times easier than trying to communicate with officials who are across the country!
